How to condition a CEC Column

The patented1, electrokinetic packing technology used in the Milli-phase CEC Columns eliminates the common problem of packing CEC columns (voids) and because of the excellent uniformity it produces, minimizes bubble formation often occurring during a CEC run. Uniformity and excellent reliability are the hallmarks of the Milli-phase™ line of CEC columns. Every column is individually hand inspected under a microscope to assure that the sintered frits are inserted correctly (two millimeters before the detection window) as well as at exactly the same distance from the outlet frit. Each column is then tested under actual CEC conditions to make sure that the columns perform to our specifications for efficiency, selectivity and symmetry. The actual test chromatogram is supplied with the column.

How to condition a CEC Column

Manufactured under GMP conditions for reproducible results, each of these prepacked CEC columns are hand inspected under a microscope for assured reliability. Frits are checked for proper placement, alignment and relative position to the pre burned detection window. Every column is tested under actual CEC conditions and the actual chromatogram is provided with purchase. Using proprietary, patented technology, the MicroSolvCEC® C-18 column provides better particle packing than other packing techniques, producing more consistent and reliable CEC columns.

Using typical flow rates of 200 nanoliters per minute, plate counts of 200,000 per meter are not uncommon. Run times are also greatly reduced due to high electroosmotic velocity. Combining the great powers of CE and reverse phase HPLC, CEC can be used with non water-solublesamples. Often gradients are not needed in CEC because of the extremely high resolving powers.

MicroSolvCEC Milli-phase C-18 columns are offered in standard 20 and 25 cm lengths but other column lengths and 1.5 packing are available with special order. The use of a MicroSolvCEC Hand Pump and Inspection Scope are highly recommended for column conditioning; see page 18 of this catalog for details.
