Frequently Asked Questions about Jordi™ HPLC Columns

Most HPLC Columns for GPC will be destroyed when you make a transition from THF to Methanol. Will the Jordi™ columns survive this?
Yes, Jordi™ brand DVB columns will easily handle the transition without damage. This is a unique feature of Jordi columns.

What is the maximum temperature Jordi™ brand columns can be used with?
Most Jordi™ columns can be used with temperatures up to 150°C.

What is the maximum pressure the higher pore size columns can be used with?
Jordi™ 104, 105 and Mixed Bed Pore sizes should be used with maximum pressures of 2,000 psi. All other columns can be used for months at 8,000 psi.

Does any other company make DVB based GPC/SEC HPLC Columns?
No, only Jordi Associates has the know how and experience to make the DVB columns MicroSolv proudly sells.

The PS-DVB column I am currently using is counter indicated for use with Methanol, THF, Acetone, Freon and Hexane. Are these solvents compatible with Jordi™ brand GPC Columns?
Yes. They will not be a problem to the columns.

What warranty does the Jordi™ brand columns come with?
90 days from date of receipt.

What is the optimal flow rate for polymers, is it high or low flow?
Contrary to popular belief, the optimal flow rate is very low when analyzing polymers. This is not true for small molecules.

Why are column dimensions and pore volume so important in GPC/SEC?
Columns with larger total pore volume provide increased resolving power. For example a 10mm ID Jordi™ brand column offers 64% more pore volume than a conventional 7.8mm PS-DVB thereby giving the same resolving power as 3 columns of the same length.

Does the Jordi™ DVB based polymers shrink and swell the same as other brands of GPC columns?
No, the Jordi™ brand columns will shrink and swell 50% of what a PS-DVB column will.

What is the pH range that I can use the Jordi™ columns with?
1- 14 without any damage to them.

Can I use strong acids or bases with these columns?
Yes, strong acids, bases, buffers or organic solvents will not damage the DVB columns.

What are some suggestions for peak shapers?
Buffer salts, strong or weak acids or organic solvents can be used to shape peaks with the Jordi™ brand of columns.

What are some of the applications that have been done with Jordi™ brand columns?
Peptides, Polysaccharides, Polyacrylic Acids, Carboxymethyl Cellulose, Polyacrylamides, Carrageenans, Starches, Hyaluronic Acid and Ligins to name a few.

What is the most best choice of pore size for polymer separations?
Usually, the Mixed-Bed Linear Columns are most versatile and produce the best separations for polymers.
